Nagwa Humanities Explainers

Nagwa Ltd is a startup that develops learning resources to prepare students for state exams in the Middle East and North Africa. These include explainers, videos, and practice question sets.

In 2021, I led the team that launched Nagwa’s first humanities and social science learning content product. The challenge my team faced was to find a way to adapt the style guide Nagwa designed for physical sciences content to the very different demands of education in the humanities.

The new products had to:

  • Maintain rigour and style consistent with Nagwa’s existing learning resources.

  • Present complex philosophical ideas in a way that students and teachers without any prior familiarity could understand.

  • Accurately and exhaustively explain the subject matter covered by the state exam.

To accomplish this, I worked with the head of content and a team of writers to design a new review process.

For each piece of content, a different team member would fill each of the following roles:

  • Writer

  • Reviewer A: style and clarity

  • Reviewer B: accuracy and alignment with exam

Content could only be published when the team had reached consensus.

This process allowed us to create a full slate of state exam preparation content. It has since been adopted by 4 new social science teams at Nagwa.
